Tank Investigations

  • Residential Underground Storage Tank Assessments:
A simple and inexpensive method to determine if soil contamination is present in the area of an underground heating oil tank prior to the transfer of residential real estate.
  • Hydroscience, Inc. implemented a procedure which is now referred to as a "Tank Investigation".  This service is performed prior to the transfer of real estate to properly insure that soil contamination is absent in the immediate proximity of an underground storage tank (UST).
  • Soil samples are collected from the soil surrounding the subject underground storage tank by a qualified environmental technician.  The soil samples are submitted to a state certified laboratory for Petroleum Hydrocarbon analysis.  Results of this testing are compared to state mandated soil quality criteria.  Based upon the results of the analysis and the findings of our "Tank Investigation", Hydroscience, Inc. prepares a written report of our findings, supported by analytical data that is presented to the client prior to closing. Magnetometer scans and custom preliminary assessments can be performed for our clients along with traditional Phase I, American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Assessments and traditional screenings
  • This testing procedure is becoming required more often by prospective homeowners, Realtors, closing attorneys, insurance companies, tank protection programs and even municipalities prior to property transfer or the issuance of a certificate of occupancy.  It is anticipated that underground tank investigations will soon become a regulated requirement, similar to that of a termite inspection or potable water analysis.  Certain municipalities and homeowner insurance companies within New Jersey are already enforcing the tank investigation procedure prior to the transfer of Real Estate. The acceptable tank inspection results can be used to obtain coverage under the "Tank Protection Programs" available to homeowners.
  • Hydroscience, Inc. also provides similar environmental services with regards to real estate transfer, such as aboveground oil tank inspections and property evaluations to determine the potential existence of an underground oil tank, underground tank removal or upgrade to an above ground tank
